Artwork Specs

If you provide your own logo or artwork, it should be:
- JPEG, GIF, BMP, or TIF format
- 200 dpi or more
See the other questions on this page for more details on these specifications and related topics.

Do I need existing artwork or graphics?

Existing final artwork is not required to purchase customized items. We can amend an existing logo or create a completely new design to your requirements.

What graphic format should my logo or artwork be in?

Your logo or artwork needs to be in one of these common graphic formats: JPEG, GIF, BMP or TIF. On many computers, these files will have a filename with ".jpg", ".gif", ".bmp", or ".tif" at the end. If your file is not in one of these formats, a graphics program such as Paint, PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc can usually convert it. They can open the file and then "Save As" one of these formats. Can I use a graphic image from a web page?

While many web pages do have GIF or JPEG graphics, these images have usually been optimised for display on your computer. They may be low-resolution images with a smaller file size that is quickly displayed in your browser. To get a good quality result, we suggest that you do not use low-resolution images. However, many web site graphic artists start with a higher-resolution image. You can contact the artist, webmaster, or marketing department to see if they have a better version of the graphic. What resolution do I need for my logo or artwork?

You will get the best results if your logo or artwork is about 200 dpi (dots per inch). If you want your logo to be 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall, then your graphic file should be about 600 pixels (3 x 200 dpi) wide by 400 pixels (2 x 200 dpi) tall. In general, more pixels (larger dpi) provides better resolution and quality. However, this also makes your graphic file larger and it will take longer to upload it to our site. If you are using a modem to connect to the Internet, then you may want to keep your graphic image to 150 dpi to 200 dpi maximum. For embroidered items, 200 dpi should be fine. Typical logos on shirts are 3 inches or less, so a file with 600 pixels should work well. For photo transfer items, you should consider 200 dpi - 300 dpi. Use the higher number if you want the best quality and have a fast connection to the Internet. See also Expert Review for details on how we will check your design's overall appearance. See also: How do I find the resolution of my logo or artwork? for that information.

How do I find the resolution of my logo or artwork?

If your logo or artwork was provided by someone in your company (e.g., a graphics or marketing department), then check with them. The person who created the file will usually know or be able to determine the image's width and height in pixels. If you have a graphics program that can open your file, it will usually provide this size or resolution information. The Paint program included with Windows 98 Accessories will open JPEG, GIF and BMP files. This program's Image / Attributes menu item will display image size information. Be sure to click on the Pixels radio button to see the actual number of pixels. Once you know the number of pixels in your graphic file, you should estimate how large the final image will be on your shirt or other item. Then divide the number of pixels by the number of inches. For example, if your graphic image is 600 pixels wide and you estimate that it will be 3 inches wide on your item, then your resolution is 600/3 = 200 dpi.

Do I need to worry about my logo resolution or other details?

You will get the best and fastest results if you have a good design to start with. However, see Expert Review for details on how we will check your design's overall appearance.

Uploading existing logos or artwork

If you already have a file with your logo or artwork, you will upload it to our site as part of the ordering process. We suggest that you make a new folder on your local hard disk and copy your graphic file into that folder. This will provide the smoothest and fastest upload to our site. It also makes it easy for you to find and select your desired file while using our site, especially if you have several different versions of your logo.
